support for mp4 / mp3 ?

Post by alan* » Sun Jan 23, 2005 4:23 am

wondering if it is ever likely that we could load apple aac / mp4 files or other compressed files into live as sound files/ loops.

With the lossless encoder it makes the idea of storing music on the laptop and using live to dj it pretty attractive.

would be great to be able to play other sound files apart from just wav and aif which take up a lot of hard drive space ?

I completely agree!
It would make things so much easier... I would love to be able to mess around with my aac files without having to convert them all first :P

think you'll find from a technical viewpoint this is still probably and sensibly a no go.

this has been brought up every fortnight since i've been hanging around these boards.....

do a search for "mp3" and you'll see the Ableton's own explanation as to why they aren't currently doing it, and also see the many varied opinions as to why many people don't want mp3 support.

hope you enjoy the reading....

But for the love ... can we have some lossless support? Some APE or FLAC support ... and mp3 would be really damn nice too.
