Live 9 - What Workflow Needs the Most Improvement?
Live 9 - What Workflow Needs the Most Improvement?
So I can think of at least 3 major uses / workflows for Live. Some features are more or less important depending on what you do.
So which area do you think needs the most improvement?
1) DJ / Remix / Mashup
2) Performance / Improv
3) Studio Production DAW

Kinda bummed that most people voted for studio production DAW.
There are plenty of really great huge full featured DAWs out there, there's only Mainstage and a few other half ass attempts at live performance tools.
Live is unique there, but still, there are huge gaps in it's usefulness in a performance situation, changing instruments in a song is a PITA, remapping MIDI controllers in a Set pretty much involves opening a new Set, with the gap in sound that entails. Saving variations of a song involves saving an entire new Set etc.

@ Machinesworking - good points. Even though I voted for DAW improvements, there is surely room for the types of things you suggest. Some of those features would be very useful in the studio too I'm sure.

no program called daw has so less midi options to offer like live.

ability to set loop points using the set buttons without it running.
I would like to be able to just scroll along the sample and set loop start/end without having it play - or probably I am missing something here.

I think there really needs to be more shortcuts and features for quick editing, resizing, etc. in Arrangement View. Some way to do Time Edits on a track by track basis (Shuffle Mode), navigation and selection shortcuts that don't require using the mouse, and the like. Session View is so fast and elegant, and Arrangement View is elegant but not so fast compared to most other DAWs.

The arrangement view needs some truly serious work including:
1. Imported MIDI files should automatically be visually clipped only to those areas where data actually exists. The ONE SIZE FITS all routine is especially useless and is probably the main reason I have yet to adopt LIVE as my main sequencer.
2. A scissor/cut/paste/erase right-click icon tool palette would go a long way in helping produce an actually viable work flow
3. A button to hide all those glaringly distracting automation lines would draw in at least another 10,000 potential users.

I think navigation and tools in both arrangement and clip need work.
For editing probably can just copy the cubase rightclick tools thing - it works well.
Simple things like moving back and forward by bar or snap/grid at a time while editing.
Vinyl mode - back and forth in the clip a bit like Traktor.

I also voted for 3, as the other areas are well maintained already in Live. If Live could cover that area as well, I'd be delighted. Especially more than 2 channel tracks are on the top of my wish list. I want to get rid of ProTools forever...;-)
