I'll preface this with the fact that I've been a user/supporter/advocate of LIve since version 1. If you use live, and have been haunted by unfulfilled live user feature-requests many of us have had for YEARS, then I strongly suggest you check out BitWig studio, ASAP! Especially if you've already gotten a peek of what is coming in Live 9 (and the next sizable chunk of money you'll need to pay to get forced to use ONLY 64-bit plugins in Live, unlike bitwig that support 32 & 64 with a Live-Like interface).
I just found BitWig Studio, its Live, but has ALL of the features I've needed in live for years now... including features like VST 32bit & 64bit support + VST crash protection, open multiple docs at once, per-note automation(FINALLY!), support for multiple screens/layouts, & a full max-msp-like native modular system built in! Nearly anyone that uses Live knows what i'm talking about
?. I've been with Live since Version 1, and this app lets me see that that not only can i work on Win/Mac/Linux with BitWig, but comparatively speaking Ableton just doesn't have a fast development structure if an App like this can creep up with such a powerful toolset & Live-Like approach that brings EVERY feature I've needed in Live for years, into a single app that I can finally also move to my Linux box, WOW!
