Envelope Generator 2

Post by Poster » Fri Mar 25, 2005 3:28 pm

I did some rework on my enveloppe generator wish...
I really hope such a thing can be integrated in the next release...

I like it!!!!

Why do you need LFO A and LOF B? I'd assume you could just run 2 in series and have the second one detect a stream if there was one and then modify it from there. I think it would have to support that in general because what if you want to send controller information from an exernal controller in addition to the lfo signal.

Well..
I like to see 2 lfo's so they can be mixed, gradually, with the A-B mixer to create new, more complex shapes...
Also, it's very nice to see what the resulting shape looks like in the little mixing screen...

I guess your option can work as well, but I think putting 2 lfo's in 1 unit is more convenient..
You can put a 2 lfo containing unit in a chain as well..

OH!! Ok I get it now. I thought the A and B mixer was just for the shapes, not the LFOA and LFOB. But wait. If you set them to differents speeds then how can you possibly draw the shape properly? Does it change in real time?

Well to be exact; the shapes are the lfo's..

Yepp, in real time; that's why there is this little screen, so you can see what you're doing.. it has to be refreshed constantly and made visible through an animated visualisation; so I guess it will be moving from right to left, and changes can be seen on the fly.....

Also; it isn't necessary to record the envelope cause lfo's are always 'running'... but it should be recordable, and shape it further by hand..

And I want it to be automateable as well..
that will be fun... envelopeing the envelope... :D

The really interesting part is when you can mix 2 lfo's with different speeds, shapes, etc... the outcome can be very complex..

Hear me talking about it; hahaha; like if it's allready there...

Tried to visualise it as real as possible, so maybe more ppl get exited,
and I especially mean some ppl from Berlin
I really hope so, cause this will boost the possibilities and fun by 200%..

Im into it.. that a good idea..
An evelope generator like that in LIVE would really add that next-level depth that I love ableton for doing to music sequencing already..

I dont know alot about programming... but alot of you out there do know about programming...

I wonder what the possibilities are of ableton adding open source plugin ability to LIVE..? Sort of like the way you could make your own buzz machines... or like how you could make your own game using the quake engine..

What you think?

Or rather... sorry... I'll put that question in a new topic
Please ignore that question in this thread...

wonderful idea, and wonderful mockup. it's nice to see someone else who spends unconcionable amounts of time on this sort of thing.

Wicked, great visualisation.

You should maybe think about becoming a grafic designer

I've got a little thing that could make the genarator 2 idee even
better, what about drawable lfo waveforms. If the waveforms
would be made out of 128steps that could be drawn with the mouse.
these 2 could be either morphed, mixed or they could modulate eachother.

Well.. to be exact; I am a graphic designer :D
Thought it would be a good idea to do some detailed visualisation,
cause maybe then other ppl get exited as well, because they see something that could be for real...

Like the idea of drawable lfo shapes...
But don't underestimate the possibilities of mixing two prefab lfo's though..
It would be much easier to set a lfo to 1/128 than to draw it...
Even if you only have a sine, square and saw to choose from,
and can adjust the Pulsewidth, Phase, Period and Level, synced up to a 1/128 resolution, you can generate almost every thinkable shape you want to..

So, Ableton headquarters....?
Would be a nice present for the summer... 8)
