layered midi editing

One thing I really miss in Live is the layered midi editing like in Pro Tools, Studio One or Bitwig. NOT as in Cubase or Logic where it is solved bad. You can see as shadows in the background MIDI notes of other clips which play with the clip you are editing. With a little sidebar you can set which clips you want to see as shadows in the background or even edit it together with a second option.

No, I'd love it. Switching between midi clips can be a PITA.
I'm waiting for Bitwig, looks like it has it at least partly.

Ideally what would be wicked is if you had the midi clip view with it's transparency as you describe (and in other DAWS) and you can just use a key modifier to switch through them, like CMD/CTRL - Scroll wheel.

I would buy Ableton immediately if it would have layered MIDI editing like Studio One or Bitwig. Ableton has many nice features but not one like this.

But in this case I m going to wait for Bitwig and look into it.

I think it would accept layered MIDI alteration like Studio One or Bitwig. Ableton has abounding nice appearance but not one like this.

I dont lika a multitrack midi editing like logic or cubase because you can just edit them together. But important is to use tracks as ghost tracks which are visible as shadows in the background. You cannot edit these shadows, just the current track you are working on.

This was important to mention because there is a big difference between standard multitrack editing and layered editing. The first one which you have in logic and cubase has many disadvantages, the second one is the clue.

I say it one more time: Im going to buy Ableton if this feature is available also clip-based!
There are many features I love about Ableton like the Racks and the nice Max for Live Devices.

If not, Im going to buy Bitwig in the middle of next year.

@alb13:

Yes, BUT with the selection if just visible or both visible and editable.
Also clip-based layered MIDI Editing!

This feature seems to be in pretty high demand, so i'm sure by Ableton X they will include it. All tho if I have to pay for it, i'll probably move over to Bitwig. Seems this type of feature should be standard.
