For some reason, they thought it would be cool,
if the midi overdub Button in live 9 instead of
enabling Midi overdub on running & Armed Midi Clips
Launches every single armed Track in your liveset!
also Audio Tracks!
frankly, i don't get it! what's that good for?
...and can you please change it back, or at least
make it a checkbox in preferences, where you can choose,
if midi overdub enables midi overdub, or messes the entire
live set up completely!
major show stopper!
have to go back to 8...
I paid for 9 suite...
this sucks...
Midi Overdub -> Back to normal! please!
Re: Midi Overdub -> Back to normal! please!
Agreed. The inability to midi overdub on a single track while multiple tracks are armed is totally destroying my live looping workflow. Please, Ableton, bring back this feature.
Re: Midi Overdub -> Back to normal! please!
Yes need this feature back!!
I was on the phone with ableton support and apparently there are 2 workarounds:
1) Delete all stop bottons for clip slots you don't want to be triggered on the scene where you are triggering the clip to be overdubbed. That way tracks that are record enabled won't automatically create clips and start recording them. (Not a good option, you still have to enable session record at some point)
2) Either Shift-click Session Record Enable BEFORE starting transport or after starting transport (holding shift enables session record but doesn't actually trigger anything like clicking it normally) and then you can trigger individual clips like before without triggering any total scene data.
The 2nd workaround in my opinion would be fine (still not as good as what it was in 8 though) but it requires using your laptop keyboard which presents a problem if you're working almost exclusively from a controller.
I think there should be a preference for "Session Record Enable Launch" or something where you can choose whether enabling session record reacts as if you're holding shift or not. AND even with that option, you're still adding an arbitrary step to accomplish what could be accomplished with only selecting the overdub mode in 8.
BASICALLY It makes no sense to me why the midi overdub operation has changed, obviously for the worse. It worked perfectly in 8, bring it back!!!

Re: Midi Overdub -> Back to normal! please!
hmmm.... shift click! intreresting...
so now i need bomes to programm some
keychian/mouse event thing to enable midi overdub...
not exactly a better way than in 8....
especially:
I need a visual feedback on the controller
to see wheather im overdubbing, or playing
nothing worse than accidentaly spamming
your drumloops with fills that weren't meant
to overdub!

Re: Midi Overdub -> Back to normal! please!
Yes ! We need an option to enable the way overdub worked in Live 8.
I can't use overdub anymore now...
Please Ableton do something !
