Please add a channel strip in the arrangement view. This will make it easier to record takes into clips then arrange them on the timeline.

You mean a vertical one or what are you talking about as there are horizontal channel strips, or did I miss something? Or you talking about something completely different

alt+shift+tab = toggle arrangement mixer.
This almost seems a no brainer.
You can't mix properly in the Arrangement using the awkward sideways bars, and ironically this is where the mix takes place; in the later phase of a project, post-arrangement, in the Arrangement view.
