But i'm fearful the problem is somehow Steinberg, though to my knowledge they've never been difficult about sharing the VST standard.

You mean polyphonic aftertouch. Monophonic aftertouch is very much supported. Considering polyphonic aftertouch have been around for decades it's reasonable to require it. But I digress.

I also would like VST3 support.
Basic gear info: Macbook Pro with macOS 10.12, Ableton Live Suite version 9 (64bit) with Ozone, Push and APC20 as controllers.

Roland has made the SH-101 Plugin (A Plug-out also for their system 1) and guess what: VST3.6

So you can't use it with Ableton Live 9.

http://www.roland.com/products/en/SH-101_PLUG-OUT/

Plug-In Formats VSTi 3.6 (32bit/64bit), AU

How can it be that this still isn't implemented? This thread is almost 2 years old, and there are more threads about VST3 on this board.

Or do we have to wait for Ableton Live 10? So they can get into our money pockets? Well, if it will take them too long, some might have gone to Cubase and never look back.

@Ableton Team: What are you thinking?

I don't see this happening until Ableton 10.

Unless all the other DAWS start supporting this before Ableton, I don't see Ableton rushing on this one. There are most likely some issues anyways that's got to be fixed under the hood in Ableton for this to happen.

Most DAWS are dragging their feet with VST3.0.

The bolded detail above means you're not correct in your assumption. I have little or no issues using Audio Units in Live 9. Why exactly can't you use the AU version?

Good question?

I don't have AU plugins for the moments (I think). But I do feel kind of stupid because I didn't notice the AU.  Especially because I copy paste the text... Maybe because I've never used "AU" I didn't notice.

I saw the news about the Roland, read VST3 and thought, damn, the people with that System-1 and Ableton will be pissed... So they are lucky then? Good news.

That said: My audio interface, the Steinberg UR824, comes with only VST3 plugins, so the point kind off keeps standing.

Yes, this is still true of course. However, I think also Steinberg have a little something to do with the adoption rate of vst3 plugins.

The SDK and docs are all here:

http://www.steinberg.net/en/company/developers.html

Steinberg isn't keeping it a secret. They publish it openly.

VST3 was released in 2008. They're up to version 3.6 of the SDK.

VST2 SDK support ended last year.

And VST3 support is quite slow because companies are evil?
