Advanced MIDI Controller Mapping - Include Range
Advanced MIDI Controller Mapping - Include Range
What i would like to see is - being able to assign a range that will affect the specific controller. (for eg: 40 - 100) instead of the standard 0-128.
I know some midi boards allow this to be done on their custon editing softwares (eg: novation) but having this built into LIVE makes it more universal and easier.
This would give very creative control over the controllers without actually worying about overshooting when turning the knobs/faders.
Hope this makes sense.

I totally agree. It'd be nice to have Live include some of the midi processing ideas that you can do with things like Bidule.

Re: Advanced MIDI Controller Mapping - Include Range
I enjoy this feature on my ReMote, everybody should have the same fun... I agree with this. In fact, it's the only reason I bought it as opposed to a cheaper controller...teejay wrote:What i would like to see is - being able to assign a range that will affect the specific controller. Man I hope so!
I have some other small things I would like to see, but this was the last biggie not covered by L5.

Assigning one controller to several parameters
I totally agree with the controller range feature. I would also love to see these added:
- Assigning one controller to more than one parameter. E.g. cc#3 controlling filter cutoff and grain delay spray.
- Controller mapping, e.g. one controller going 0-127 on one parameter while going 127-0 on another, hence allowing crossfades between parameters - filter cutoff increases while grain delay spray decreases.
Combined with the requested controller ranges, these features would carry the "live" aspect of LIVE to a higher level, making it an excellent tool for live improvisation and experimental music. They would also enable users to get more out of a single MIDI controller.

I'm sure they have noticed, but I don't think we can influence Live 5.
It's either there or it's not.
I'm sure it's one of the next features coming up, but as we know Ableton won't add more features until the next version in 1-2 years.
So, I sure hope it's in 5, but I don't think we'll know until the beta.
It only makes sense to have this, it's not like Operator or Simpler are going to have this basic funtionality without Live doing it for them.
I also hope they fixed the issue of only publishing the first ~100 VST parameters so we have something to map to because many VSTs have their most important parameters (filter cutoff, etc..) listed way down the list...
So anyway, here's hoping!

I think a piece of software like Live, which has already implemented quite experimental features like follow rules for clip triggering (clearly a step towards algorithmic composition) must have a much better MIDI controller mapping. At least better than the previous state, which is as primitive as it can be. It is impossible for me to assign the Kaosspad for MIDI control without tweaking the kaosspad MIDI settings everytime, because Live does not allow me to enter controller mapping manually.
