Copy time instead of just copy

Post by Underground Surface » Tue Mar 22, 2016 4:32 pm

There is cut time, paste time options etc., but no copy time option. Copy option in context menu it’s a bit misleading, when another time options are available. I suggest adapting ctrl+shift+c to copy time instead of just copy. It would be more convienient way then selecting from top to bottom, or cut time and undo.

I usually just Copy something, and then paste it using Paste Time.
I don't see the need to have an option to Copy Time when you can choose only when you are pasting.

It is misleading. Sometimes I press ctrl+shift+c, but there is no such hotkey. I really don't get it, why there is cut time, paste time, but instead copy time is just copy. It is perhaps a little detail, but somewhat important.

I still don't really get the point to Copy Time.

To Cut you need to have the choice to Cut Time or not, which is the case.
To Paste it's the same, you have the choice.
But Copying or Copying Time seems redundant to me, since it has no effect on the part you are copying.

paste time, delete time and duplicate time work independently of clip selections.
they affect everything in the whole arrangement from top to bottom regardless of which clip is select.

To copy time, you have to manually select the whole arrangement from top to bottom.
It would be nice to be able to copy time command without having select everything from top to bottom.

It is a very reasonable request. I am surprised that it is still not in. I also mistakenly I press ctrl+shift+c to copy time. In order to do that I have to cut time and then undo, that makes everything slower due to massive amount of RAM used several times.

I resurrect this zombie thread to provide a GOOD solution!
(My god this is so annoying that they haven't made this easier yet  )

You DO NOT need to select all the tracks and clips!

- Set the locators to the range you want.
- Right-click, select Copy

EITHER:
- Then MOVE the locator bar to the location to you want to insert it. Right-click locator and select Paste Time. (It will insert at the beginning of this and push out time.)
OR
- Select the first track, and click a time on the arrangement you want to insert to. Then choose PasteTime from EditMenu or shortcut (cmd+shift+V)

Thanks. Seems pretty straightforward. Obscure, but not difficult, as with lots of things in Live.

just to clarify on the above, the user means the loop points, not locators.
you have to left click the loop point to select the entire contents under it before right clicking the loop and copying.

Reviving this thread because I found what I think is the fastest / easiest workaround to this weird Ableton limitation.

The trick to simulate "copy time" is to "cut time" and "undo". Then you can just "paste time" wherever you want.
You can do only using keyboard shortcuts: CMD+Shift+X, CMD+Z, then CMD+Shift+V

Hope this is helpful!

EDIT: Nevermind. I just saw that was suggested in the first message
