4k SUPPORT... It's 2016.

I am with you :0)
I have Live installed on Zenbook laptop with 4k screen and it gives me headaches watching it.

Same here... I thought great, I'll get a 4k video card and monitor so I can see more stuff... bad idea... now I'm screwed. No VST3, No MTE and no 4k. I'm so disappointed. Ableton, we need some love.

At least... AT LEAST
Give us an update on this on when it will be implemented

+1000
4K monitors are sold more and more and used in growing number of laptops.
Should be high on the list.

I've been asking for this for a year. I work on a Surface Pro 4. It looks awful. All the text is pixellated and blurry, and if I open certain VSTs then Live shrinks to 1/4 it's normal size, yet the VST still appears normal...

...seems like we are getting more...Stefan Jantschek wrote:More than one year and several updates were passing by since i had contact with Ableton support about that issue.
The blurry fonts are definitely torturing eyes on a 8h working day!
Meanwhile even Sub-Notebooks came with UHD Resolution/WIN 10.
Disable Hi-DPI-scaling in app-preferences does not help due to the problem that any floating windows
(plugins, preferences, etc.) are not affected by AL9 zoom levels.
They remain unreadable.
The fact that only very few users seem to worry about that issue surprises me most...

Re: 4k SUPPORT... It's 2016.
I got a new laptop and it didn't cross my mind that I would have to make sure Ableton works at a certain resolution.
Seems silly to me, but what do I know. So yeah, please fix this.

Re: 4k SUPPORT... It's 2016.
I realize there are difficulties to add this support and dreadful trade offs to make, but as high resolution displays get more common, this situation as it stands is obviously unacceptable.
Currently I think Live relies on OpenGL for graphics. This warrants the questions; what is the state of OpenGL support on Windows?; What's the state of OpenGL support of high resolution displays?; and how is the state of Graphic card acceleration of typical OpenGL routines needed for real time updates?
Of course also, whether Ableton have any realistic alternatives to OpenGL. What does other DAWs use? Anyone know?
Anyone knows how to measure if you have any hardware acceleration going on when using Live?

Re: 4k SUPPORT... It's 2016.
definitely +1
i'm on a 4k screen too, but luckily on 32"
deactivating scaling at high dpi (as in the compatibility tab of the live 9 exe) makes for a crisp live 9, but tiny plugins (uncomfortable to use on my screen). i can just imagine the nightmare with smaller screens, since plugins already tend to cram as many fine details into the ui as possible.
leaving the live 9 exe as is and using the windows ui scaling makes live 9 blurry but the plugins are in normal size. This is not cool but acceptable and would be my way to go right now, BUT zooming in / out in clip view or arrangement view via the bar on top is just off, zooming inwards randomly and therefore making it almost uncontrollable.
This does not happen when "deactivate scaling @ high dpi values" is checked on live 9 exe -> so were back 2 tiny plugins (and being fucked on small 4k screens)
a simple option within live9 to enlarge the plugins (by making them blurry, like win does with older programms) shouldn't be that hard to do? Or at least fix the bug with the mouse input when using the windows ui scaling.

To solve the blurry text I find this on internet. Works for me.
###
To fix this problem on desktops/laptops... 1) start an app 2) right click on its taskbar icon 3) right click (again) on the app name on the popup menu 4) select Properties 5) select Compatibility 6) Disable display scaling... 7) Apply quit app and restart... whew... but it works like a charm.
###
And then you need to scale the application up to 200%

I hope it helps. good luck!

Re: 4k SUPPORT... It's 2016.
sure, this helps to avoid the blurry ui of live9 itself. But live9 does not scale the vst plugins to 200%, so the plugins stay so tiny, that they are unusable on smaller 4k screens.
Live should just scale the plugins to the same scale as the ui (even if its just by resampling them and making them look blurry, but at least we could then use them normally). This would have the advantage that we don't have to rely on each and every plugin to provide a hires ui.
Another approach would be to make live9 compatible with the windows10 ui scaling, so live9 stays sharp and the plugins get scaled by windows10.

the disable scaling kinda helped but i agree that the plugins are still tiny Live guys should fix that .... but they do not.mono808 wrote:sure, this helps to avoid the blurry ui of live9 itself. Re: 4k SUPPORT... It's 2016.
Smart plugin designers (a minority) provide scaling options inside the plugin itself.
