Expand / resize views on ALL instruments

Post by akela » Tue Mar 06, 2018 5:45 am

Dear Ableton,

Version 10 is great! I'm very happy to see some great new features like Echo and Wavetable, more detail on Push's screen, and some lovely keyboard shortcuts.

That said, I am a little bit disappointed that it's 2018 and we still can't resize instrument windows. An FM synth the size of a business card on my screen is just REALLY hard to see.

I will say that the expanded view of Wavetable is EXCELLENT, but I really would like that option to be extended to other Instruments. Especially Operator. Please.

Thank you,

Agree so hard with this! I love wavetable's layout.

bajillion percent bump ... super surprised live 11 did not address this ... i suspect it's a fundamental design disagreement at a high enough level ... but i am a user, and i suspect there are more that agree with me than not ... i likely won't take the time to objectively demonstrate this posit, however ...

anyway ... please do it ... and don't hard code it ... make it dynamic, like mac OS and window scaling ...

finally ... why is this not more obvious to more people ? i will take the time to desire to understand this, if anyone responds that is

or that Device wIndow itself can resized, indepent from the rest, you can resize live as a whole, so not why not the devices only?

quadrillion percent bump. VST's have been standardized as independently resizable for some time now.

i suspect the lack of functionality around this has to do w/ core code writing that never considered independent resizing into consideration and would require significant decoupling and rewriting of libraries.

i would even settle for a multi-session approach that enabled me to have one version of live at one zoom percentage, and another (popped-out window) at a different percentage.

or ... bitwig?

Found this thread through a Google search and thought it's time for a bumpety bump.

ABLETON devs, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE

consider implementing this feature in the next 12 update, SERIOUSLY. I think EVERYONE using your software would like to see this.

EVERY OTHER DAW that I can think of, including 3rd party software instruments have a resize feature. Why is this not available in Live for ALL devices?

Your software is stellar, it really is, but come on, give users the ability (in ALL versions of Live and with ALL devices) to be able to open them in a separate, larger & resizable window.

Thank you kindly. :)

Totally agree, resizing instrument windows would be a huge help. Fingers crossed Ableton adds that feature soon.

infinite percent bump. and to be clear - this is DEVICES - not merely instruments (we mean effects, etc, too)

i'm not sure this will be possible given the graphical capabilities of this layer of ableton's architecture, unfortunately.

but even if it were "hacked together" it would be better than the current user experience.

something like:

Code: Select all

- given that individual detachable windows (there are currently two available to my knowledge) can be resized separately ...
  - enable a separate device window assignability, that creates what amounts to Window 3 (W3)
- W3 should be independently resizable, or lockable to percentage scaling, similar to currently supported window resizing
- W3 should simply take the horizontal scrolling mechanics currently supported
  - if W3 is detachable, controls for left-to-right "overview scrolling" should come with W3, and it should have an "always on top" simple function
  - if W3 remains in place, using the new resizing / stackable interface functionality, the "overview scrolling" should remain in place on the bottom right of the UI
- in addition, after creating W3, W4 to Wn should also be supported, and should be stackable, and instruments could be dragged and dropped between Wn's similar to how they already area supported, if they are certain instrument or effect types
- this would of course apply to
  - max instruments
  - max audio effects
  - max midi effects
  - ableton instruments
  - ableton audio effects
  - ableton midi effects
  - vst, aau, bla supported plugin interface renders
this would NOT be that hard to do.
