Midi vs Commercial Agreements between Ableton and ...

Post by Piet » Fri Jan 17, 2003 11:47 am

Hello,

You know a lot of people ask Ableton to add midi file playing capabilities to Live... i'm sure they have this C++ code in their CVS or SourceSafe... maybe for Live 5.0.
I simply think taht Ableton have commercial agreements with company like Steinberg, Cakewalk, Emagic...(*) or other who specifies that Live must not contain such a functionality at the risk of swallowing the market of these companies.
I think Ableton Live, Emagic Logic Audio and Native Instruments Softwares are the best coded software and bug free software on the market !
But when these big companies (*) have the money... they are deranged when a small powerfull, innovative and reliable company come out.

Ableton, please confirm or invalidate my statements.

the beauty of conspiracy theories is that they can't be proven anyways. i highly doubt that anything like you mentioned exists right now at the level you assume. of course midi is implemented, live afaik is based on max/msp and as you can see everything is automatable anyway. to get something done "right" is the bigger problem and to just "add" midi to Live wouldn't benefit the software at all imho.

The beauty of conspiracy theories is that they.. ah, I see you already said that.

Max/MSP is great software, but Live is not in any way based on it.

yon,

Honestly, WHY don't Ableton add Midi track to live ?
I'm SURE Live is based on a super Object Oriented Model with some base class like, CTrack, CSoundTrack and object like CMixer, CAsioWrapper... so a lot of C++ things....

Why don't you herited from CTrack and add a little little little midi player in it ??? PLEASE.

;-)

A Software Engineer that makes music too !
