Focus to stay on note start when moving note to the right

Post by baseinstinct » Sun Apr 19, 2020 9:35 pm

When the view does not cover the whole length of a note, selecting the note and moving it with cursor to the left retains focus on the beginning of the note, but when shifting the note to the right, the focus moves to the note end. This looks like a design omission because when moving notes, you want to see where you move the note start to, and where the note will end can be later manipulated with note length.

I'm not quite understanding what you mean by focus. I try this and the note retains the focus no matter how I move it. It disappears during the drag (for speed no doubt), the reappears when it stops. We are talking MIDI, correct?

Yes, midi.

When in piano roll, create a midi note and then zoom in until it is no longer contained in the screen. Select the note and use the cursor key to move the note
1) To the left
2) to the right

As described above, moving note to the right, you cannot see its beginning. My point is that it is the note beginning that the user wants to see.

So you want the grid to immediately scroll to show the beginning of the note?

Yes, because you otherwise do not know where the note is being positioned. You do when you move the note to the left - the view does scroll to the note start.
