Even with Ableton Live's own multi-articulation instruments, switching between articulations isn't as easy as it could be. Largely because the only feedback for the chain selectors used to select them is the number of the chain. Accordingly, you must remember the range or number assigned each articulation. It would help tremendously if the name of the item represented by the chain or range of chains was shown on the grid or macro control. Perhaps even be able to re-name the chains separately, for more succinct labeling.
With something lIke Kontakt, you can use a drum rack and rename the MIDI notes used to switch articulations, then enter them on the piano grid, so that's a bit better. But it can require a lot of scrolling as articulations switches are generally way down in the lower octaves. It's also just not a very musical way to operate. Ideally, you'd be able to select articulations from a right-click or other drop-down menu for groups of selected notes.
I know this isn't Live's bread and butter, but they do provide orchestral samples with multiple articulations, so it's not completely foreign to the mission.
Better articulation and chain selection handling
