An experimental thread. Seeing how negative approach of the opponents to the idea of a device slots display being further developed by Ableton is disrupting free flow of ideas of how to bring this to a new level, how about a dedicated thread where both radical and mild opponents have a space to vent out their dissaproval of or doubt in the sense of the dialogue.

Let me start by being a devil's advocate,
1. the option is not essential, and by dealing with THIS, Ableton team would be spending their valuable resources on ressurrecting something that has been abandoned before.
2. It is not likely that Ableton will ever resurrect the functionality

So exactly what features are essential? There are a lot of basic features in Live I never use. Those are not "essential" to me, but they might be to someone else.

Ableton has plenty of bandwidth to fix a feature that basically already exists.

It having been abandoned is meaningless. That was then, this is now. Whether it's useful to users or not is the point.

I'm not even against splitting the discussion, but this thread starts already "poisoning the well" with phrases like "negative approach", "disrupting free flow of ideas", "devil's advocate", etc. clearly meant to portray any argument OP doesn't like as negative from the start.

Just saying though just because something has been abandoned before doesn't mean it shouldn't never be reinvestigated again in the future. It could have been abandoned for various reasons that might no longer apply. Something that was once a major resource intensive project, might no longer be with different programmers who has skill in that area (or the same programmers with new experience/knowledge, or maybe whatever roadblock that was in the way in the past got removed by a different update).
