Screaming doesn't increase your chances. You are all much too narrow in your requests. Trackpad zoom gestures also doesn't work.

External Zoomability is a more full and proper request IMHO. The "+" and "-"
buttons do work of course, but when your hand is already on teh trackpad/mouse zooming should be available there.

How is this still not a thing? The code is surely there to do it? Just call the functions that are made for the ruler-drag zoom and attach them to mouse events! The majority of us could probably do this in 10 minutes if we had the code.

Within the Arrangement View, the scrollwheel scrolls tracks up and down, but I keep reaching for alt+scroll or ctrl+scroll or shift+scroll to zoom.

PLEASE add this feature Ableton.

Add any alt key+scroll to zoom the Arrangement view.

I must be in the minority but I pretty much like Ableton's current implementation. Or at least I find it better than most DAWS with scroll wheel zooming.


Ableton's drag down/up zooming allows me to hone in on the area I'm zooming in. Only gripe is after like Ableton 8 or 9, they reduced the zoom area some which makes it a bit harder to zoom.


All and all it is more on how scroll wheel zoom is implemented.

The zooming in Reaper I don't like that much (it uses scroll wheel) as it doesn't hone in to your zoom area that efficiently. However the zooming in Sound Forge (scroll wheel) is amazing (probably the best zooming of any editor I've worked with), as it really allow you to hone in on your zoom area and it zooms to very fine details as well.

Imagine the ability to hold the alt+right click and drag to zoom from wherever your mouse is pointing. That would keep you in the flow, because you are usually zooming to edit something your mouse was just touching.

Completely agree!! Could at least do what Bitwig is doing with (on Mac) Control+Alt as the modifier for the wheel to allow zooming at the based on the location of the mouse cursor; some type of modifier has to take all of 2 seconds to program for the guys at Ableton. This HAS to be a simple case of them not looking at these posts. -- that said, I still love Ableton Live 9!

X-Mouse button control seems to be a good alternative for Windows/PC Users. It's very customizable.
