one of lives main defects imo is that there is no labels on the meters ie -3db -6db 0 +3 and incrimants between... makes it very difficult to mix. the overloaded red masterfader is cool but the decible incriments need to be marked next to the meters in order to mix efficiently. know what im sayin?????????????????????
g4pb 1ghz, m-audio fw410, live 5 etc......

this seems to be a common wish...
But i don't get it. Do you actually look at those numbers when you mix? I just listen. Is there a reason i should be looking at numbers?
I'm not trying to be a dick, i seriously want to know.

You can't clip a 32-bit floating host internally anyway can you? IIRC The only place you can clip is the output bus. I wouldn't worry about it.

S'pose so - but lets say, for example, your running a 40 channel mix and your gain structure is a tad hot. Other than strapping a limiter across your mix or dropping the master the only option is to meticulously go through dropping each channel by a specific amount. So rather than head down the route of emulating the appearance of hardware, re -db metering along the side of the faders, what I'd like to see is the ability to gang faders.
Also I'd still like to see a return of Live 4's Ctrl-Alt-P view which had 'long throw' faders - much easier to see what's doing what from across the studio!

I second the gang faders option, I use it for that pupose in SX all the time, saves loads of work.
BTW, if you're adjusting a fader, watch the 'info strip' at bottom of Live. It will show you the current dB value of the fader. Still not ideal though.

Ganging faders would be nice!

I'm currently mixing a drum kit - I can in theory route through another channel (what I'll end up doing no doubt) but it would be nicer to have gang faders!

Yeah, routing things to a new track is a messy workaround for a simple problem IMO.
