Is there really no Cubase-like step input that allows you to enter notes by keyboard, but not in time? You basically set a 'cursor' to a point in the sequence and then hit whatever keys on your midi keyboard you like. These notes get inserted according to quantization settings, and the cursor is moved forward. Ideal for klutzy keyboard non keyboard players who write at the keyboard.
I'm running Live 5, Reason 3, and Cubase SX 3, and it is interesting how much overlapping functionality there is, and how each has their own strengths and weaknesses. Cubase seems to have a particularly rich MIDI editor, IMHO.
