Color-coded Waveforms (like Serato Scratch Live software)

Post by vizon » Thu Jan 19, 2006 7:06 am

I REALLY find the color-coded waveforms in the Serato Scratch Live to be super-helpful when mixing. Maybe it's just me, but I think that color-coded waveforms would be absolutely awesome in Ableton. I wouldn't feel so blind as to the texture of the track.

Just an idea. Anyone agree or is this just me???

I think I remember this from V3 & V4, where the chosen clip color appeared behind the waveform & that they just dropped that feature last year (did they say it made waveforms easier to read? I don't know. I was bummed).
Maybe they could split the difference and reintroduce some new version that pleases everyone. I use a lot of color coding in my live set, so this would speed me up & help me worry less.
And how about more clip colors? I'm using every one. Just 4-5 more…

or a color wheel, well sort of: so when we click that popup menu for the colors, instead we can choose a color by dragging around. up and down for the color, left and right for brightness.

Well, I meant like different colors within the waveform representing different elements of sound / timbre (hi-hats green, snares purple, kicks red, etc)

That would be great. Even just being able to change the waveforms colour so you can actualy see the dam cursur when zoomed out would be great.

yep, one of those "fixes" nobody asked for but that got implemented in Live 5.
This section should only be for stuff we don't want so that maybe they would implement features we want on their own decision.

How would this help for editing audio? I don't want Live to be an alternative DJ application. It needs focus, not side features.

I'm not saying this feature and what's now couldn't co-exist inside Live. I''m saying get a real DJ application. Live may be a great remix app. It's not a DJ app. It should cater to Djs with stuff like Link. That's where the power is. Link is available now.

While you can choose to DJ with Live exclusively that means IMHO you accept it's a DAW, which is not a DJ app like Traktor.
Make some music!

@Stromkraft, the spectral information, when embedded in the waveform, allows you to see the active frequencies in an audio clip over time without opening Spectrum or playing the clip.

This is advantageous for producers as well as DJs. If you find it to be too much information, then the feature should be toggleable.
