tempo editor

Post by podprod » Fri Jul 18, 2003 12:25 am

we need a way to be able to enter whole numbers of bpm in the tempo editor in the arrange window
At present its close but frustrating when trying to get the tempo to get to lets say 120.bpm amd ir reads 121.whatever insted of simply entering the numbers..

Hello podprod,

the fine tuning of breakpoints in the arranger is not one of the highlights of Live in it`s current state. And in the case of the tempo curve.... well to be honest i have to admit that it really sucks.
We are working on a better solution already. But it is very likely that we will not have it for the next ( 2.1 ) update, sorry.

A pretty ugly workaround:

if you want to have a specific tempo in a given region do the following:

1. select the region in your arrangement
2. press Command L ( Menu -> Edit -> Select Loop )
3. turn the loop OFF and turn the punch in and punch out buttons ON
4. type in the tempo you want to have in this region in the song tempo field
5. press record and play

now a straight line of tempo automation should be recorded in your selection which has exactly the tempo you typed in.

not a nice hack but at least it is a way to solve your problem....

( and it works for ALL paramters in Live )

Cheers, Robert / Ableton

tempo ramps

Post by mech000999 » Fri Aug 08, 2003 5:45 pm

i finally tried this, and it does exactly that - a straight line of tempo.

is there a way to do a tempo ramp up or down in the arranger, i.e. 80bpm up to 100bpm over 8 bars?

i mean i know you can set the nodes in the automation track, but then its back to the original point of 'not quite exact' tempo values. 121bpm ends up being 120.45 or 123.2, and ive tried double-click, cntrl-click, cmd-click, opt-click on the tempo nodes to try to get the option to type in absolute values in the tempo automation. no dice...

ableton rules. thanks to the live community for tolerating my banter.

cheers,
-n
