Live play list with midi control

Post by richkyle » Tue Sep 30, 2003 3:58 pm

I use live in a band, with a midi foot controller - I am a guitarist. I need control over session file loading, controlled via midi - to load, during a gig ,the file for the next song.

Would be great

i know you can assign the function keys to live songs on a mac. so you can just hit F1,2,x and your song will open without going through folders.

now... i also know you have this app for windows (is it 'yoke' or 'bome' or something... do a search) where you can assign, for instance, a switch on the behringer fcb1010 to a computer keyboard command.

so, if you can do this simple 'assign song to F-key' in windows... there you go. if you have something like this yoke or bome for mac... then there you go again.

some more input? this is kinda interesting indeed.

Indeed it's called Bome Midi translator and does exactly what Borg says. In conjunction with Midi Yoke you unlock the full potential of keys/midi control in Live

original poster--definietly get the bome and yoke. with bome's you can assign a 1010 patch to the delete button. Then when you make the occasional (i make more than the occasional) flub while recording a clip live in front of an audience, just hit your delete patch on the 1010, and no damage is done. Start recording your clip again at the right place, and the flubbbed version is just a distant memory. I couldn't imagine doing live instrument looping gigs without it, i would be screwed.

can't find any sign of the 'assign song to F-key' function in windows, where abouts is it on the mac version of live? is it a menu function? or something outside of live. would be so usefull to me too on pc......

sorry apples...

don't know windows that well... in fact i only know atari and mac os9.x
a bit.

if you install mac os9.x your 'F-keys' are 'blank' so you can assign any function or folder, file,... whatever to these keys. so it's not something your missing in ableton live.

a shame this isn't working on windows machines.

i recently bought a second hand toshiba laptop and magma. a pc freak is trying to set it up for me at the moment, without a lot of succes so far.
i'm thinking more and more of getting a powerbook.
damn... live was running so nicely on the satellite the few times i tested it (built in audio, no midi though, but nice results nevertheless, and powerful)

Thanks borg, i get what you mean now.

I think there's probably going to be an small app out there that can make keyboard shortcuts or macros for windows.....in fact already found one by stardock called keyboard launchpad that looks a bit bulky but...

can definately get something to make it work your way,

brill,

apples.

Try EZ Macros by American Systems. It a fabulous utility that would allow such things as loading a new Live set in from a keypress plus assignment of the functions you are after. Been using it yeas, great tool and worth every penny.
