CROSSFADES, PLEASE!! =(

Post by paveloso » Tue Jan 16, 2007 2:49 pm

Abletons,

I think Live really needs fades/crossfades for audio regions in the arrangement view.
I use self-made loops, as well as a bunch from different libraries, and have found myself cross-fading them ALL THE TIME in other apps.
As much as I like Live, I do feel this is an important oversight. I mean, after all, it is quite sample/loop-oriented, is it not? Very frustrating!

yeah i kind of agree. You can do it with clip envelopes but it seems a really clumsy & fiddly way to do it. I still love the way you just drag them across in cubase...but then that could get complicated with clip envelopes as well.

crossfades please

Post by omniverse » Sun Jan 21, 2007 5:44 pm

Would love to see crossfades. Ever since I started using live as my main multitracker, just doing punch-ins or assembling a composite track from multiple takes has been a hassle. Every other DAW has it.

I'm really puzzled as to why we don't have crossfades. Everyone always says that Live isn't a DAW, they do things their own way, etc. which is cool, but I haven't found a good way to do this. My only guess is that it's coming in the long awaited arrange page rewrite.

Anyone know more?

More and more people are using Ableton Live as their main DAW.

Its about time Ableton stood up to the plate and give us the DAW features we need.
This doesnt mean it will become bloated or difficult to use. Ableton have always found ways of making things simple, and Im sure they can do it for things like crossfades and track folders.

Come on Ableton, its too late to turn back. Live is a DAW. Take it to the next level, where it belongs, up in lights beside Logic and Cubase.

When you overlap parts while holding down a key modifier, it should just create a new crossfade clip that replaces the audio where both parts overlap. That way we get crossfades and ableton can keep their "1 audio stream per track" methodology.

Although personally I REALLY like the new layers method introduced in Wave Editor myself.

Are we talking about how Acid does it when you have a couple tracks (in arrangement view for Live is where I guess this fits) and you highlight the two you want crossfade and press the F key? Are you meaning fade one track out while next is coming in? If so that's something we should have had a while ago for arrangement view IMHO.

Doesn't Live already do it automatically? It's not a full-on crossfade but I've read that it puts a fade in/out at each end of a clip to prevent popping.

It's a tiny 4-5ms fade in and fade out. We're talking about crossfades here, blending one clip into an adjacent one.
