Tempo control via CC ?

Since it doesn't look like we will be getting midi in or out sync working anytime soon, is there a chance we just get the tempo of Ableton controllable via CC's ? Would be nice to try to beat match Ableton with records or drum machines without resorting to the mouse.
Griffin Technology is making a cool Mac device that would be perfect for this sort of thing.

Got the Griffin technology PowerMate programmed to handle this and be a roving controller. Works great once you figure out how to programme it.

How can i make the powermate function as a dedicated tempo controller?
i don't want to have to mouse my way to the tempo box before spinning the powermate to lock tempo.
