completely pointless.
ableton, please spend your time programing some usefull software.
not something that would be redundant.
everyone has access to free software that will accomplish this task.

MP3 is so nineties......
I'm not down with poor sound quality.
When I do need to use it, I don't mind going to other software.
but what ever makes you happy
I would rather see the abbies program something worthwhile.

There are many good reasons why someone would want an mp3 of their work, instead of aiff or wav. Personally I like to send work-in-progress versions to friends over email or messenger to get their feedback, hence a smaller filesize is ideal.
Look at FL Studio where mp3 export is integrated - I use it all the time. You can export parts of your song, or individual loops as mp3 - very useful to build a sample library.
Mp3 export is a must-have feature, IMHO.
cheers, Morten

Excaclty, it's all about the work in progress thing. Sometimes, it can add up to 10 edits. Converting all those edits is an uneccesary hassle imo.
Also, there will be two files: one wav and one mp3. I have loads of wavs lying around which i've forgotten to delete.
Ableton and Cycling 74 are coding geniuses. FL Studio has it. I see no reason why there shouldn't be mp3 export. It also seems to be one of the 10 most requested features from what I can estimate.
And if there is an mp3 export, it should support tags, so I don't need to re-tag my works in progress to make them show on my semi-retarted creative mp3 player.

I agree with the opposing side. Of course I do this work in progress sending all over msn, but I really don't mind doing that by a simple right click in iTunes. And who would like to build a sample library of mp3s? mp3s are the worst thing to ever happen to sound quality. I think time is better spent making good DAW features, rather than trying to make live more like a media center (i mean, tags too? where do tags fit into making a good track?)
Yup...

Tags would be good for those of us with retarted mp3 players
Of course, we're talking about optional mp3 export. If I'm uploading my music to myspace, virb and soundclick, it needs to be an mp3.
Of course, if features like track folders and half of the other ones in the "small workflow improvements" thread are implemented, and not mp3 export, I won't be too sad
