MIDI control of clip parameters. Let's be having you!

Live is absolutely gaggng to have at least some of the clip paramaters controlled via MIDI. Things like Transpose, Detune, Warp markers, loop points, loop lengths. It's SCREAMING for them! It would add a massive amount of functionality just by adding a few of these things from an interactive use standpoint. Live would be so much more tweakable in a realtime sense.

Oh, and clip reversal and overdubbing of course.

I recently sold an Electrix Repeater. I got rid of it because Live did almost EVERYTHING better than it did. higher bit rate, easier to control, more features, no MIDI sync issues, etc.

However, OVERDUB!!! DAMN, do I miss that from the Repeater. In fact, the repeater is one of the most sought after pieces of looping hardware on the planet for two reasons: One, real time time stretching and pitch shifting (though with noticable artifacts) and OVERDUBBING! What a great feature.

"Why don't you just record a second clip and play them both at once?" you might ask. OK, no big deal when you are doing one or two passes, but to build up a massive wall of sound, it's not practical. Also, if you have your track properties set for say your vocals and you want to duet with yourself, you have to have TWO instances of all insert effects, and have duplicate tracks. Not CPU friendly, not user friendly either.

Just a thought.

As far as clip properties with MIDI, I agree with transpose and quantize, as well as offset position start and end. - But exactly how would you automate warp markers? Doesn't sound practical to me...

Montrealbreaks : here's a little howto using Bome to control the warpmarkers by midi translating qwerty keys to midi events : http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic. ... highlight=

People have been complaining a lot about the lack of midi in the bottom panel/clip properties . Already very early on ABleton advised that this part of Live was designwise radically different from the upperpart and was hugely difficult to midi-fy.

Think it comes down to a programmingdesign choice at the conception , rather than not wanting to or stalling to do....
