PROGRAM CHANGES for Ableton Instruments!! (esp. Drum Racks)

Post by dbone » Fri Oct 05, 2007 4:00 pm

Can't view the new video here at work, but I am curious to know if you can change kits in the new Drum Racks on the fly via program change. It's 2007. We SHOULD be able to load all the samples into RAM - don't gimme no jive!! ;)

Otherwise, we are left with either (A) one drum kit per Set or (B) creating a stupidly huge kit with a bizillion drum sounds or (C) multiple instances of the Drum Rack per song. ...all of which are weak "solutions".

One thing that has always bugged me about Ableton instruments (eg. the Operator demo - I don't own them) is that you cannot do a freakin' Program Change and change patches within a clip.

Kind of renders them useless in a "live" situation

...all that said, I am HYPED!! :)

Live 7 looks pretty sweet! This is really my one and only quibble - it's just a very major one for me as I don't want to render this stuff... I want to PLAY IT, ya know??

I have been using V-Station recently using MIDI program changes to switch presets mid riff for bassline variations and OH MY GOD it rocks. It lets you add soo much more complexity to something without increasing CPU cycles.

Comon - this should have been added right from the start!

Add some ability to also morph between these presets at a user defined speed or cycle through them sequentially or randomly and you have one hell of a selling point added with little implementation difficulty.
