make effect "off" the default

Post by aviavi » Fri May 21, 2004 1:44 pm

I would prefere it if plug-ins were not "on" when first dragged to a Live session track. Usually, the setting is not what you want, and you get a sudden moment of a bad effect setting, with a quick panic hunt for the bypass button.

I totally agree, this has been pointed out a few times before. I can't imagine why Ableton programmed it this way, it's the last thing you'd want at a gig. You can get around it by always keeping an empty channel to drag a new effect into before loading your settings.
It completely dumbfounds me how stupid someone was when they programmed it this way. Surely it can't be that hard to change, can it?

nice workaround, Martyn--can't believe I didn't think of that. But yeah, c'mon ABleton, is it really that hard to default to off (or at least put in in preferences as an option to make everyone happy).

Ooh, yeah... put it in my preferences.

Good one. I would like the option of being able to have them default to "off" for live purposes, but for messing around at home, "on" is better.

yes, I wish that there were many more options in the preferences menu, this being chief among them.

Effect Default 'Off'

Yes, please!
In a live gig situation it's amazing
how stupid it feels to really want to add that bandpass
to a track you just played live, but not be able to
get the settings right before turning it on.
Seems like an obvious one.. preference would be ideal,
as everyone else has said...

Is there anyone who actually thinks it's a good idea to load an active effect, like a delay (with totally wrong default settings always) in the middle of a live performance?

I't be interesting to put it to the vote.

Mmm, this probably must be for non-ableton efx , 'cause when inserting these they are on but they don't influence the sound ... which confirms their good live design ... I can imagine if they conceived it this way for their own plugs, it might be harder to change thn we think ...

If you chuck any of the delays, a reverb or chorus straight over a playing track they DEFINATELY do hugely effect the sound instantly. Thi is not what you want to have happen if your song or meter settings do not suit the defaults.

It'd be nice to have th option anyway.

I concur, a pref option ( best ) or default fx off would be choice.

Yeah, you're right most of the ableton efx are "neutral" , but those you mentionned are instant efx ... my mistake.
