MIDI RESET/REFRESH! PLEASE!!!

Post by djpowder1200 » Sun Dec 30, 2007 9:24 pm

okay so we all paid a lot of money for a program which allows us to perform music from a computer live. hell, ''live'' is even part of the name. why, oh why, can i not refresh a midi controller that gets unplugged? twice now, during dj sets, i've lost my midi controller, which i use as a mixer, leaving me stuck trying to mix tracks with nothing but a mouse pad and qwerty keyboard, which is a bitch. i don't want to hear any crap about why it cant be done. if we can put a man on the moon, i'm quite certain someone can figure out how to give us this function. it needs to be done, and until it IS possible to refresh midi devices, ableton live is NOT suitable for dependable live use, and is thus not market ready. god forbid this happens while i'm playing a live PA, when i'm actually playing the keys, but i'm sure it will at some point, because as anyone who performs live music knows, shit can and will happen. as for djing, i'm going back to vinyl. i love ableton, but i can't keep playing half ass sets because a BASIC feature essential to performance is lacking, and until the problem is rectified, my ableton isn't going any further than my studio.

bro, its not ableton's fault your PC won't let you use your midi controller after you unplug it.

other software can do it. why not live? no need to go into the mac vs pc thing. i know mac's better, but i have a pc, this is the feature wish list and i'm wishing for a feature. doesn't really seem like an unreasonable feature to wish for either. hell, i'll even pay for it! make it an upgrade! i don't care! just make it.

never tried this, but...
probably you could route the midicontroller via midiox and midiyoke into ableton. that should be possible even after reconnecting.

YES, YES a thousand times yes.

This is supposed to be good software, so why can't it do something so simple as refresh midi inputs.

Plenty of other DAWs do this. Why not Live??

+1 here!
Live MIDI crapped out in the middle of a faraway out-of-town set.
A very, very unhappy situation.

This apparantly was implemented in Live 9. I just found out by surprise that I could just turn on MIDI devices after Live's startup and they would be listed immediately.

If they would have announced this feature somewhere I would have bought it in the first second of release!
