Your Top Three FR for Live 8

Post by headquest » Fri Jan 04, 2008 11:29 am

What are... your top three feature requests for Live 8?

Mine are:

1) Groove Quantise (for both MIDI and Audio, including groove extraction).

2) "Producer" Warp Mode - a higher quality timestretch algo for people that want production quality results (e.g. licensed from "Radius" or "Elastique Pro"... or of course proprietary)

3) Clip Overlapping:
* in Arrangment View (including auto-crossfading and clip handles for all clips)
* in Sessionn View (using expanded "Launch" options)

1) Groove Quantise (for both MIDI and Audio, including groove extraction).

2) Better use of racks to allow macro buttons to work how they really should work already imho. E.G.:

-be assignable to external synth controls so they transmit / react to received CC messages and still can be assigned to a midi knob on a control keyboard.

-remember assignments to reaktor instruments through being saved and loaded.

3)Some way to colour tracks in the arranagement view, so when each track has 2-3 lanes of automation you can clearly separate them from other tracks/lanes at a glance. Some sort of light shading for the track + all of its lanes thats assignable like clip colour would be great.

2+3 might be more like 7.X requests, so i'll add a 4th :>

4) Multi monitor support.

1). Groove Quantize (something like Reason's Groove Mixer would be nice). We need to be able to Groove Quantize each track individually.

2). Refine the auto Quantize function. We want to auto quantize 1/32nds as well. All of the Auto Quantize settings should be keybindable (just like Global Quantize).

3). Improve controller compatibility for drum racks such as with Kontrol 49, Akai Mpd 16.

1) More autonomy between Session and Arrange! Being able to seperate them (including dual monitor capability!) so that working in one won't affect the other unless you want it to.

2) Clip overlapping/crossfading in Arrange view

3) Track Folders/improved track grouping&editing

There's more, but that's my top...three at the moment.

Is it Top 3 per post? Good, then I'll add:

1) Multi-take "comp" recording

2) User-defineable key commands for everything, saved globally

3) Marquis-style selection across non-congruous tracks

1: The ability to have multiple streams of audio per track - this leads to crossfading in arrangement view, and the ability to overdub multiple takes into, for instance, one clip. This could then be processed independently (think of each stream/layer of audio as one chain in a bigger rack) or together, for overdub looping.

2: OSC. And not just sissy-OSC, I'm talking full-on reporting and reception, like

/track_1/name
/track_1/clipstatus/i f , where the i(nteger) indicates which slot-number is playing and the f(loat) indicates how far into the loop we are, from 0. to 1., etc. etc. etc.
- controlling this would let you jump playback to anywhere in any clip in the session view. Stuff like that.

3: Internal recording of automation in SESSION VIEW, ferchrissakes!

All of these have been requested since, what, Live 4?

1. Track grouping/folders.

2. User assignable key commands, and oh how I wish Crop Sample had a key command :(

3. Detachable plug in GUI's. WAY TOO MUCH scrolling in the clip view area now, especially with Drum Racks and Instrument racks.

1) External Instrument should also send Program Change so that an External Instrument can really be called that way (otherwise you have to rely on clips for Program Changes)

2) Import a list of names like any other DAW instead of playing with numbers in clips for program changes. A Text file might do and you can tie it to Midi Preferences for a Midi port. Users will build their own, no need to distribute a list of all hardware on Earth

3) Sampler should import ESX24 and SoundFonts in a more correct way, it should be an import & play experience not an import & tweak & play experience

4) Impulse should be able to be remapped to Drum Racks with a Click like simpler to sampler (1 impulse with all its capability should be mapped to 1 Drum Rack in a 1 to many way. 1 Drum Rack should map Impulse 8 slots but only 1 impulse in Rack)

5) Bring impulse capability (stretch, Random capabilities on Filter and velocity) to Drum Racks or evaulate number 4)

6) detachable GUI for native Live plug ins

7) Ability to send/receive SysEx through a new MIDI Plug-in so you do not have to recode MIDI implementation everywhere

probably more like Live 2

I know I was gobsmacked about the session automation thing probably the day I bought Live 2 - it's the weirdest thing loading up your VSTis and recording MOD wheel CCs into a clip then discovering you cant actually do it with any of Live's own devices

that's number one for me

2/seperate recording for automation and sequence

3/BTA buttons per track
