Re:
I dont think it would stand in the way really. If say the Next version of Live had a feature where you could right click and 'Add Macro' upto 16. Then when you load the set up - whereever It just looks for the information how many macros used on Channel X in this project.logman wrote:I think Live shouldn't allow too much customisation of interface, so that people can share sets easily and perform other people's works LIVE. If additional macros get in the way of this idea, I'm against it.
Obviously it wouldnt affect the ability to work in a backwards state as projects - to the most, arent backwards compatable (ie you wouldnt worry about wanting to open a Live7 set in Live1.)
I like this idea.

for macro buttons (with toggle, gate, step, hold modes)
+FFFFFF
for basic interface customization.
- add/delete macro knob.
- add/delete macro button.
- box (vertical/horizontal), grid, border, flow... layouts
+FFFFFF
for simple rules/functions/operators/linking (however you want to call this/them...)
possibly embedding those in the Live Workflow,
IMHO it shouldn't be asked people to sit in front of another software (read 'M4L' here),
and use a lot of time in something that could be managed in a clever manner
with a few number of menus and choices.
If, after a while, or for specific purposes, someone needs or likes to delve into Max/M4L,
sure that'll be the only choice to give him/her a certain degree of freedom and capabilities.
I repeat it's just IMHO, for the basics a few menus/options would be great.
Just think of how the simple change of having the possibility to link more
than one parameter to a knob has already grown more than exponentially the control possibilities...
cheers

+1000 for add/delete macros
+1000 macro buttons
suggestion #1
since live 8 the macros also show the unit and not only a number from 0 to 127.
but when i map a cutoff and the resonance to a macro it shows again only a number
so why can't i choose which parameter will be displayed.
suggestion #2
2.1
the min-max-range of an macro is not enough. i want to define ranges where the macro has no effect on the parameter. this would be usefull if you are controlling more than one parameter with the macro.
example: from 0 to 80 the macro is controlling the dry/wet of a phaser and from 81 to 127, changing the macro, will have no effect on the phaser and from 64 to 127 the macro will also change the dry/wet of an chorus.
and then you could map the autofilter like the filter from the pioneer djm800 (highpass on the left and lowpass on the right).
2.2
or from 0 to 63 the phaser goes from 0% to 80% and from 64 to 127 the phaser goes back down from 80% to 30%, while the chorus will follow the macro from 0 to 127 with a normal range from 0% to 100%.
to edit 2.2 there could be an curve-editor at the same place where the groove-pool is.
btw: where can i vote? i don't see a yes/no-buton

+1 More Macros Please.
Especially since the APC 40'S "DEVICE CONTROL" section (Shift/1-8) provides up to 64 encoders if I'm not mistaken. Which is normally for devices with MORE THAN 8 PARAMETERS. Live 8 User Manual pp 471-472(PDF reader pp 473-474).

oh ya!
More macros (tabs perhaps)
and definitely macro buttons!
This will be one of the first things I try with max for live if someone else doesn't first (which I'm sure they will).
