Is the solution for one screen laptop and multi screen studio setups.

Re-arrange-able panes, with screenset snapshots means multiple midi editors on one screen. It means two mixers one one screen. It means hide the things you don't need while on stage on your one screen. It means customise your one screen for live laptop use.

It also means placing panes into more than one screen.

Same interface as now, but you can move the panes about, and save the positions into snapshots.
sign me up.

given the widescreen aspect ratios and general abundance of affordable monitors in over 22" flavors, it's a win for both rational sides of the argument...

then there's the 'but i've got an extra 19 inch monitor therefore i must use it' crowd.
they will not be satisfied until separation occurs.

no matter if it´s native or not. if u really need multi monitor support, you can have it right now.
You need suite or m4l, but I think, if you demand extra-features, you have to willing to pay for.
the most people, who want DMS, have the suite already, because they always want all the features at once  BIG TIME!

I took up the challenge and made some max for live devices that replicate session view and the mixer as in either "in window" or "floating window" versions. I also through in a floating device window. Originally my goal was just to have session view and arrangement view available simultaneously, but fellow users convinced me to go further!

They require Max for live 5.1.9 or better (yes, they work in Live 8 and Live 9!) Check them out at www.erasermice.com

Here's a video about them too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLSdcrjhdFM

I understand you wanting it to be built into Live, but insisting that third party tools be free is a bit like me wanting you to send me all your music for free because I already spent enough on other iTunes purchases.

I have nothing to do with the cost of Ableton Live, and have invested a lot of my own effort into building these patches. I thought $9 was being pretty reasonable for the effort.

You can also build it yourself from scratch if you think the hours you'll likely spend on it (rather than making music or doing other things) is worth less than $9.

PS Muzik 4 Machines, no ill will meant.

I checked out your musik and enjoyed your videos. I'd imagine you've made more money on iTunes than I have selling my M4L devices.

i made a whopping 8$ in 3 years!, not even enough to buy your device (and btw, if you go on my site, every song is free, even the ones on sale on iTunes, the only reason it's on itunes is for visibility and for people choosing to encourage me, a la shareware)

I'm sure you earned the money to pay for Live and your other equipment somehow. Writing and supporting these devices is how I'm paying for mine. Contrary to what you think, I'm not making a killing. I have yet to break even on my upgrades and purchase of a Push for continued development . If you don't value my time and effort then you can certainly develop your own solution and give it away.

I have been making tutorials for a few years and haven't charged anyone for any of them (3000+ subscribers, and 250,000+ views, all for free). And the ironic thing is that I teach people how to make their own MaxForLive devices.

OK, one last thing to close out this "debate" over whether or not I deserve to earn enough to pay my bills. If you insist on only using freeware. Check out these basic devices that get you at least some alternate view joy (provided by thomsonaudio, synnack and myself):

http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... sionviewer
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... er-monitor
http://www.maxforlive.com/library/devic ... loat-mixer

If you like what you see maybe you'll be interested in the full featured, enhanced $9+ three pack of my devices after all. (note, I was unaware of the other mixer devices until after I released my mixer). My tools were built clean (without knowing the others even existed) from the ground up, entirely separate and unrelated. And you can always save the $9+ and roll your own.

stay funky,

EraserMice.

I bought the devices this weekend and they are really great little tools, certainly worth the tiny price tag. Thank you ameree.

One question: is there any way to make the floating mixer as tall as the actual mixer window? I could get it the same width, but not the same height for some reason.

First of all, Thanks!!!!

I'm working on new user requested features now, resizing is high on my list of priorities. Expect a new version to come out shortly after I get my hands on a Push.

No problem, I'm happy to support quality user driven innovation. Great news on the height fix, looking forward to it.
