Just 2 instances of the Live window as we know it, with the option to hide the tool bar in one of them.bowzer wrote:It'd be nice to just have the sequncer view in one window, and then with stuff like insturments/sample library/the effects bar and all that shit on another.
Goes hand in hand with screensets of course, like:
[copied from my post in another thread]
Another call for Screensets and Dual Monitor support, as asked for by many others in several other threads.
A screenset should remember ...
... if the Browser and/or Clip Details view is open or closed.
... the hight of the Clip Details view (individually for Sample Display and MIDI Note Editor).
... if Mixer, Sends, Returns, Routing Matrix, Crossfader, Track Delay are shown or not.
... if Overview is shown or not.
... if plugin custom GUIs are open or not
... of course, if Arrange view or Session view is shown.
A screenset should dynamically remember ...
... the current horizontal zoom state in Arrange view; if the screenset is 'locked', a fixed pre-set zoom size.
... the vertical zoom sizes of Tracks & Automation Lanes in Arrang view and vertical track widths in Session view; if the screenset is 'locked', fixed zoome sizes and track widths.
A screenset would be recalled by command-option-number (Mac) and ctrl-alt-number (PC) respectively. In addition, any single key stroke and MIDI command could be assigned to recall screensets.
Screensets should remember all that for two parallel Live windows at once, for dual monitor support. The tool bar would offer the option to be hidden in one of the two windows.
At least, until Live gets screensets, give us the option to have independent hights for Sample Display and MIDI Note Editor.

agreed... not only dual monitor, but the ability to see a session and an arrangement at the same time!

what if all the live modules (arrangement, session, effects, browser,...) were modules we can place everywhere, link together, duplicate, synchronize, etc...
damn, it looks like a mix between Max/MSP and Live...
where is the Cycling'74 / Ableton collaboration ?
i can't imagine they are not preparing such a thing....

Definitely this is top on my list. Also, on that note, it would be nice to have something like the arrangement window that you can open up on another monitor that doesn't actually figure into the arrangement. The idea would be to have a separate sequencer "scratchpad" so you can chop up samples and beats (preferably with transient detection as well as standard time grid divisions), and then compile all of it back into a clip in session mode. I often will take drum breaks and then duplicate it multiple times in arrangement mode, have one track untouched, chop out everything but the kick drums hits on one track, and chop out everything but the snares on another, and add reverb to those hits to taste in order to alter the power and dynamics of the break. It would be nice to be able to do all of this without having to remember to mute all of those "scratchpad" tracks I'll make in arrangement mode, everytime I want the arrangement to play back as intended.
