I've never really found a need for this, just makes everything atonal... can't see how anybody could use it for anything.

Try it on drums with an envelope follower. Don't overdo it.

um, it doesn't make things atonal if you use the frequency that matches your song, right? (i use a ring mod all the time with guitar, but change frequency to match song, unless i'm looking for mayhem.)

Ring mod just sounds really cool when applied to a lot of sounds, especially plain sine waves.

Count me in too!

I find ring modulators really useful for abstract drum noises and I too use them on guitar - in my case for weird soundscapes. In fact I was only wishing ableton had one earlier today when creating some noise at uni for a performance. Ah well made do with ring mod in audio damage's kombinat which sounded pretty good. Anyway, back on topic - given Ableton's track record, they would make an awesome and flexible ring mod hopefully which would definitely make Live even more of a stand-alone studio and the best tool I have for sound design and sound destruction! It would be great to have a really flexible ring mod using some of the Ableton design flair.

Ring Mod was one of the first effects I ever used, back when I was rocking just an SP-202 and a DR-202 (such happy times...).

There are plenty of VST Ring Mods out there.
