Post by gavspav_2 » Fri Sep 11, 2009 8:34 pm

Call me stupid but how do I load the example patches?

I can load the ones which are in .als format. but the .amxd files?

Bit confused.

the .als format is Ableton Live Set, so a Live document..

the .amxd files are MFL presets and can be opened from Live's browser..
just drag them from the browser into the Live set..
you can drop them on a track or in the area where it says 'Drop files and devices here'..

cheers..

Actually, I believe the .amxd files are the max devices/patches. The "presets" are still stored as .adv files in your library.

Either way, yeah drag and drop.

aah.. I didn't notice..
I have saved patches as .amxd directly from the patcher into the Live library..
the patcher actually suggests saving them in the library..

but I see you can also save devices from Live, resulting in a .adv, while being the same device..

Its not the same device. Its a preset of that device. Just like an arpegiattor preset isn't an arpgegiattor device. Just a link to one.
If you don't have the .amxd file that goes with a .adv file, the .adv file is useless.

Exactly. You need the .amxd file no matter what. .adv files only store param states (i.e. presets) but not the device itself.

Max for live is Max. You should be able to just open .max patches and they work. You'd just need to move things around to fit in the viewable space possible in an ableton device.
