"get playing_status" always report false, even when the clip is playing.

for a clip or a clip_slot?

The difference is to do with track grouping, if I remember correctly.

it seems the playing_status property only exists for a slot.

i encountered this...or something like it.

is_playing and/or playing_status would sometimes give false negatives. i actually ignored it when i found out i was working as documented except for that because it wasnt consistent.

i will pin down which it was. i think it was clip.

EDIT:

yes, clip always says no valid object set (although, that is not the error i remember. it explicitly said the property didnt exist) but it has to work as documented for this patch to function...and it functions.

This seems to be working properly for me. When I trigger a clip in slot 0 of track 0 (MIDI tracks), is_triggered is set to 1. When the clip begins to play, is_triggered returns to 0 and is_playing is set to 1. playing_status sends a 'bang' message when is_triggered or is_playing changes. I've navigated to the Clip object (not the ClipSlot).

You'll see in the reference for the Live Object Model (accessible from the reference pages for live.path and friends) that the playing_status property is NOT get/settable, only observable.

If you're seeing something else, please give some more information about exactly what object you're trying to observe.

clipslot only gives useful info about status when it has a group clip...i haven't used them much.
