Man, you were quick to reply; I almost immediately edited my message, copy/paste works, sorry !
The swing thing: strange thing is, swing works in the original seq.

Just thought I mention it.

Thanks,
Bert

No problem, I'll take a look into it.

One thought though, create new folder for the Floating Seq and make sure you put a copy of the JS file in that folder two. Keeping it in it's own folder makes it easier for preset management too.

If you edit the device in Max (make sure you're in patching mode) lock the device and then double click on the patcher - 'p Floating Step Sequencer', 'thispatcher' can then be found at the top of the window in a yellow bounding box. You'll need to configure the device in presentation mode to your preferred dimensions and then add those dimensions within the thispatcher message box (the first pair of numbers represent minimum window size, the second pair, maximum window size).

Thnx for the feedback Jon; I did what you suggested, copied the swingfile and placed it in a separate folder with the floating seq, but: still no swing.
I am a total Max noob but opened both seqs in Max anyway to see if I could spot a difference in patching between the two seqs, but of course: nothing. Intriguing.
Don't know if it matters, but anyway: I am on XP.

Best,
Bert

I'm a Max noob myself, so not sure what the problem can be. Tested it again - first time I've used it in the released version of M4L (it was built using the beta version) and can confirm that the Swing function is no longer working. I'll dig a little deeper and report back.

Once again, thanks for bringing it to my attention.

@Bert

I've fixed the swing function and the amended device can now be downloaded from:

Let me know if you have any problems.

@Jon

Holy cow, it swings! Thanks, you took the time to customize the thing, it would be impolite not to test each and every feature. I really dig the extra CC tab you added, by the way.
Best,
Bert

You need to place the device in the same folder as the standard step sequencer (it references the same external JavaScript file for the swing function - swingCalc.js). Alternatively copy the swingCalc.js file and place it in a new folder with the 'floating step sequencer' device.

This should resolve your problems.

Thanks Jon, by looking at your sequencer and the original version makes me understand it more and more...thanks for the handy tips :)
I'd love to know how to implement shot/trigger/gate/sync to the sequencer, but I guess that's a bit too much to ask ;)

Keep it up !

The features you'd like to implement are certainly possible but you'd have to code manny of them from scratch. Read the live.step help file to get a full understanding of the customisation available.

I personally use a mix of Sugar Bytes Thesys and Five12's Numerology as my main step Sequencers and I love the ML-185 device that's available at http://www.maxforlive.com/library/device.php?id=75 . For me you can never have too many step sequencing devices. Each one makes you work in a different way which can be great for inspiration. I definitely prefer it when a step sequencer isn't trying to be all things to all people, they just become cluttered and hard to work with. So with this in mind as I develop the Floating Seq further I want to play to the live.step object's strengths.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Jon,

I noticed a little bug in your SQ.
The midi thru is always switched on, so all inputted notes come thru, even when midi thru is not switched on...

Many thanks for letting me know. This seems to be caused by a bug within Max (patch cords are becoming detached within sub-patches when you use cut & paste). I've reported it to Cycling74 and am waiting for confirmation.

I'll fix this in the next major update (for most normal use, you shouldn't notice the midi thru bug).

Thanks again.
