Note to midi conversion (possible?)

Post by Jekblad » Sat Nov 21, 2009 5:53 pm

Being a guitar player, i'd love to play operator with my guitar for the price of M4L only. Is this possible? I've heard rumbles etc...

look at fiddle~... it's an external originally written by Miller Puckette and ported to max/msp by David Zicarelli (c74 founder)

http://crca.ucsd.edu/~tapel/software.html

these are exactly the sorts of things that max/msp is really great for.

put the .mxo file in your max5/cycling 74/msp-externals/ folder and the help file in max5/cycling 74/msp-help/

ok i'll try that. I pasted it into "new audio effect" and have been trying to figure out where the "in" section is. sigh.

well, it's in there. And that's it.

this is literally the first time i've ever worked in max, so i have no idea what the next step is. If you enjoy this, we can continue. If not, no prob i'll try and find someone to whip up the device or something if it's simple.

I get to learn max after christmas, too much on the plate.

Thanks for your help so far!

double click the help file, it will open in max. most objects have such a file that describes the objects use, i/o, etc... usually in the form of a working patch.

I'll see if I can cobble something together and post it. the thing with freq to midi conversion is that harmonics become an issue really fast... your guitar's E string is not just E, there is a lot of other tones in there. It's quite challenging to get stable conversion.

That would be awesome! I know there are several chaps who would enjoy it as well.

My first composition would be dedicated to you sir.

A while ago I made this fiddle-object into a max-patch, with some of my additions. Its not max4live, but you might use it as a standalone anyway.
You find it here:
