Max 5.1.1 is online
Max 5.1.1 is online
I am guessing that perhaps part of the delay in releasing Live 8.1.1 was the desire to be sure that it worked properly with Max 5.1.1. Now that the latter is out, I am hoping the former will not be far behind.

DO NOT DOWNLOAD THIS; it's currently broken with Ableton 8.1.
Re: Max 5.1.1 is online
Max 5.1.1 works fine with Ableton 8.1, both the release and the beta versions.

Re: Max 5.1.1 is online
I can't get .adv files to work. When I double click one in the browser (for example, the 'Bad Webern' preset for the Max MIDIGran effect in Max Midi effects - Tools - Max MIDIGran), I get the message "The preset cannot be loaded. It is probably broken. I haven't tried it with the new 8.1.1 Beta.

Andrew, Hi.
I already have; the problem is as the previous person in this thread reported; .adv files are no longer working with the latest release of Max for Live. There is also an error -- an obvious one -- when you try to load the Buffer Shuffler factory content .als file when you try the "Getting Started with Max for Live" Help in Ableton 8.1. I'm shocked no-one caught this.

Ah, yes, the preset files and the tutorial Live sets. Sorry for the inconvenience. We got ahead of ourselves. I'll update the Max 5.1.1 download page with a warning about this.
I personally find the beta versions of Live to perform better than the 8.1 release, but I understand entirely if this is not your cup of tea.
Here are the Max 5.1 release installer locations if you threw that file away. If you have not saved any of your own content in your Max5 folder - just delete that whole thing before you install the older version.

Re: Max 5.1.1 is online
Hi Andrew,
Thank you so much! This is what I was hoping for, but didn't want to ask for in case it was going to be complicated on a weekend -- access to the previous M4L version.
Fortunately it's a minor though annoying problem, if you want to relax and fiddle with presets instead of deep-diving as I sometimes do -- I'd be more concerned at this point with new users who purchase M4L between today and when 8.1.1 is out and run into these troubles. Hopefully just a very temporary, short-window scenario.
Very Best,
Steve

Yes well I am one of those unfortunates who bought Max today and have now been screwed by this cockup.
Not very professional guys, poor show!
Still got the same problem trying to open the tutorial set after trashing the max5 folder from applications & reinstalling using 5.1 with Live 8.1
When you say here 'your Max5 folder' exactly which folders are you referring to on OSX?Here are the Max 5.1 release installer locations if you threw that file away. If you have not saved any of your own content in your Max5 folder - just delete that whole thing before you install the older version.

For those of you trying to go back to the release of 5.1 you will probably have uninstall and reinstall the Live pack to get the original content back.
MaxforLiveContent.alp is in the support folder in your Max5 Application folder.
Or you can install the Live 8.1.1 beta, and stick with Max 5.1.1

How exactly does one "uninstall" a live pack?pukunui wrote:For those of you trying to go back to the release of 5.1 you will probably have uninstall and reinstall the Live pack to get the original content back.

What folders/files should I delete before installing 41208?
Re: Max 5.1.1 is online
You may uninstall Live packs from Live's preferences, Library tab.

Re: Max 5.1.1 is online
I installed today the latest full release of Live and Max 5.1.1 for max for live
but my presets showed up as broken.
1. So I uninstalled the MaxForLiveContent Live pack from the library tab in Ableton
live preferences (viewable within the application).
2. I then deleted the Max5 folder from my applications folder.
3. I installed the Max 5.1.0 .dmg file (listed above).
4. I went into the Max5 folder and found the Live Packs folder and opened the file
called MaxForLiveContent which reinstalled my max content.
Now it all works fine.
