can you use M4L devices in Max runtime?

Post by stax67 » Fri May 21, 2010 7:30 am

Hi, can any one tell me if it is possible to use or convert M4L patches so they can be run standalone in Max runtime?. I am assuming that you can't use any object specific to ableton, like live.remote etc., but if the M4L patch only contains standard max objects is this possible?

I have M4L and Max runtime, but I do not have full max 5, is it something I need max 5 for.

Cheers Stax.

If a M4L patch does not make use of the api objects (which only work inside M4L),
you can convert these patches into standalones
but this requires the full Max version.

If you want to create standalones you need the full Max version, as Christian has mentioned. But another thing you could do would be create a new document in the editor and paste in the contents of your device. Then you could save that as a .maxpat and it will open in the Max runtime, which is basically all that happens in a standalone anyway.

If you include access to audio and MIDI drivers in your patch, you will be able to configure it to use external audio and MIDI devices while running in the Max runtime as well.

hey pukunui,

I have managed to save my M4L patch as a maxpat but it opens in 'editing' view, is there any way to make open in 'presentation' view.

cheers stax.

create a new, blank max device (audio effect, midi effect or instrument).

copy your patch, paste it into a m4L patcher.

If you want to open a max patch in presentation mode, choose Patcher Inspector in the view menu while you're editing the patch, and check "Open in Presentation"

Cheers
