Monomodular b941

Post by amounra93 » Tue Sep 07, 2010 6:51 am

K, here it is: my sacrifice to the gods of "too much time spent staring at a laptop".

But I think that those of you who are already using it are going to really like it, and those of you that aren't...well...you should give it another try.

Sorry, documentation is still very sparse. I've added bits here and there, but I really need to sit down and think about all the things it does and actually write them down. There will probably be some vids in the near future.

It helps a great deal to get feedback from people who are using it; as I've mentioned elsewhere, I've been developing/using it so long that I forget to mention important bits about how it actually works and how to configure it.

Main points that have been added: Multiple clients/hosts. You can connect 8 clients to a single host, and select them by pressing option(ipad), User2(launchpad), or shift(APC)....you'll then see a navigation grid to change quadrants of the grid (monomod emulates a 256), and the top row is the client selected, the second row is the channel its sending from.

Clients are automatically connected to the host in the order that they appear, but you can configure them manually after they've been added. You can have the same client connected 8 times, or 8 different ones, or whatever floats your boat. Settings should persist between Live saves/restores.

The APC40 now has an HUD that should work under all circumstances. I've removed several bugs that were...um...bugging me. And Monomodular now supports the standard APC40 script.

The iPad interface is very different. I've finally been able to add multicolor in the intended fashion, as well as a new screen that is a 16x16 grid. There might still be a few bugs, but I've used it the most of the last several weeks and I think that I got the majority of them.

There are several new clients, the most important to most of you being "monolink". Its a utility to connect to any monome patch or plugin (e.g. Molar), and thus run that plugin as a client in Monomod. It supports autoconfig as far as I can tell. I'm still testing it, and I could use some feedback.

Also new: I've ported Stretta's tintinnabulome and sment. Theres a plugin called swing8 that controls swing for 8 clients (its another host). Knobs has been greatly ammended and is now a monomodular client with grid-control capabilities for presets. It also supports snapshots now.

I've incorporated MIDI output with the use of the midiOut plugin in all the clients that send MIDI. If you have the plugin installed in your VST library, it will allow you to send MIDI directly from the client to a virtual port, and thus back into Live. The benefit is that this will give you the ability to channelize each plugin, and switch channels on the fly. You can change channels with the second row while holding down option/User1/shift. I've maintained the old nomeout object as well, but mainly so that I can still try to come up with a bug report for Cycling when I have a chance to test it some more. It will most likely be gone with the next revision.

I've also incorporated Bonjour support for detection of the iPad....you'll have to install an external if you want to use it. Its readily available for Windows; if you want it for OSX, contact me or download the full package from my website.

I've also packaged up the abstract and script needed to design your own plugins, and I've created a new dummy plugin so that you can edit your plugin and still maintain communication with the host (which is not in edit mode). Again, send me questions if your interested, I'm happy to answer them.

I know....documentation. Centralized. That's next on the list. Keep checking the blog, I will be adding pages explaining everything as much as I can.

Everything packaged together is here:

(its under bleeding edge)

Or you can download the files individually from Max for Live dot com. (I have links to all the files on my page, too).

Happy pressing and blinking.

Cheers

Updated Monomodular main patch to b941. Only change: I finally got a couple of extra launchpads to test with. It works with multiples, but I had to fix a small detail first. Enjoy ;)

Sorry, naph...I've had serious difficulties getting TouchOSC to recognize certain layout files, I think often because they are so large. Thanks for letting me know there is a problem with it. I should have checked it by downloading it after I posted the files, I'll know for now on.

I've uploaded a working version, it's here:

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/6044993/monomod_b94.touchosc

There also a link to it on the blog. I downloaded it after updating and it seems to work fine on my system, please let me know if it doesn't work for you.

There's a rough (but old) info file in the monomod plugin for basic operation. Check the blog later tonight or tomorrow, I'm going to spend some time writing documentation for how monomodular works tonight.

Cheers :)

the updated version works with no problems

i was able to use plinko in a relatively short time, i already knew the basics having used it few motnhs ago on the launchpad. i can tell that the 256 matrix on the ipad is pretty gorgeus :)
will try other plugins soon

thanks a lot to amounra93 for putting so much effort into this work.. cheers ;)
