Yes, of course!
The first volume contains no m4l specific info, but it is an extensive introduction to Max/MSP programming and to some fundamental synthesis and processing techniques.
The second volume will have a m4l chapter.

I kinda disagree that this is stupid, from a commercial point of view that is..

Now, granted; they didn't really come up with all the text but merely translated it. But that doesn't mean that there hasn't been a lot of work involved with setting up such a project.

By going paper only for now they will at the very least protect some of their investments for now.
