Thanks. (really looking forward to getting started)
yes. Max for Live contains the Max objects plus some that are particular to M4L. But 99% of the knowledge you'd get from Max/MSP can be applied to Max for Live.

Great book, you have to reqwire the chapter examples to output to plugout, but they work great!Good intro and advanced topics. Can't wait for other volumes!

Can you elaborate more on this? I'm a total Max newb/idiot. I wrote the authors yesterday, but if I can figure out how to use the book examples without having to bother them, that would be great.

Specifically, what do I need to do to be able to use the example patches in M4L, and would this also apply to other Max?MSP patches, for example from c74.com user area?

Thanks!

well, you open a track in ableton.

you drop the default max-audio-effect into it.

You hit the edit button, the max patcher window opens.

Now you can build all patches that are as examples in the book. There is only one little difference: You can't use the dac-object (the one with the loudspeaker icon), this is not available in max4live. Instead you will connect to the plugout-object.

Now the sound of your patch should get routed out of the max-audio-effect into your track in live.

The dac~ and ezdac~ are the same object, replace with plugout~.

You can cut and paste the examples from the books website into an empty max for live instrument or when necessary, effect track. then detach the ezdac~. Then re-attach the left and right plugout in its place.

hmm...
i think a paper version is still more convenient ... but no matter if it is a French translation :D
The subject is difficult enough that I need to focus on explanations rather than my English ..

+1 for eBook. No interest in paper here.
