hello,

I don't currently own M4L, but if it can do this, I'm sold!

I'd like to find a way to change the "Audio From" and "Audio To" of any track w/ out using a mouse.

ideally, I'd like to have this function mapped to a button that would toggle between two or more chosen paths.

has anyone done this successfully?

thanks in advance for any help,

-m

thanks for the reply D!

hope it is possible; been researching M4L quite a bit and haven't found anything indicating it is.

my concern is that changing the "Audio To/From" is only accessible via mouse movements.

thanks again,

m

It's definitely possible. Check the current_input_routing function of the Track in the Live object model.

currently trying to wrap my head around

"Creating Devices that use the Live API".

it definitely looks possible though!

I'll keep reading...

Actually the right answer here is "yes and no".

Yes, you can set and change input routing and sub routing and its relatively easy too. Same applies to output routing (and sub routing).

No, because its extremely tedious (too tedious IMO) to make a good difference as to what is currently available.

Check the property "input_routings", this will give you a list of the currently available input devices for the current track. This is what it looks like on one of my midi tracks:

print: All Ins CASIO USB-MIDI Computer Keyboard Maschine Controller In 3-Maschine No Input

Hardly usable. Its a whole list of individual words which may or may not be related to one other. "All Ins" is actually one entry (so 2 words) yet so is "Maschine Controller In" (3 words).

So you can't just assume to be dealing with 2 word devices only and as such iterate over 'm. So its very tedious to get a good working list.

Same applies to audio tracks.. For example:

print: Ext. In ASIO4ALL ReWire Input Max Reason Resampling 2-MIDI 3-Maschine A-Return B-Return Master No Input

This is from my first Audio track. Again we see the same problem: "Ext. In" (2 words) vs. "ASIO4ALL ReWire Input" (3 words) vs. "Max" or "Reason" (1 word).

Setting this property is indeed quite easy; the main problem is to determine what to set it with.

Hmm, maybe a feature request is in order; they should consider getting those results grouped together somehow, that would make things a whole lot easier on our end.

That is indeed wack. They should contain each input in quotes.

+ 1

(at the moment the ungrouped list of entries seems a bit useless)

Indeed.. quotes or a delimiter.

Anyway, did a feature request on the C74 forums, you can check it here.

Knowing C74 I'm pretty sure someone is going to look into this. In the mean time I'll take a more indepth look into this as well; pretty interesting problem here and I really wonder if there's no other way around this.

I like this one better

Although it still needs a good rehaul, some of the routines there are already stone aged, like using messages and send/receive whereas a value and grab could have sufficed :-)

really appreciate anyone's help, thank you!
