If you get reactor now you'll have two immense open ended archetectures for exploration rather than one. You've got the cash... But do you have the time?

reaktor and maxforlive seem a bit excessive.. I'd stick with one or the other. If you have no experience with either id recommend m4l just because it'd work better with ableton. of course if you're using other daws reaktor's the obvious choice.

If this matters to you:

I felt cheated when I switched from reaktor to MaxMSP - the midi stuff that I wanted to do is *much* easier in Max - and this elitist aire that surrounded max made me think it was hard.

Also, documentation, anyone? Yeah, the docs for Reaktor are horrid, and the ones that come with Max fucking rule, to be blunt.

In my mind there is no contest.

Is there documentation catered especially for MFL? I have MFL but I was only able to find the regular Max documentation.

whoops, you caught it. I meant Max, of course. And they're the ones to dig through for the midi things.

Jesus, Reaktor's documentation is like fucking cave drawings compared to Max.

I've learned more from Max's (included) tutorials than I ever gleaned from the shit I had to search for to try to do ANYTHING with Reaktor.

Max is to Reaktor what touchscreens are to DOS.

Cheers,
