X/Y Pad to fade between four sound sources

Post by Korhan » Thu Aug 16, 2012 9:18 pm

Hi there,

I am trying to build a sample player in maxforlive that uses one X/Y pad to crossfade between four sound sources in a way that:

- each source is assigned to one of the corners
- when the pointer is at the center of the pad, all sound sources play at quarter volume.

does anyone know how to do this?

I think I can build a 2D lookup table with the relevant volumes (a low resolution table and use line to avoid jumps between values) for each sample. Is there an easier way to do this?

In fact I don't know how to make a 2D look up table, but I guess the secret lies in Jitter.

Thanks,
Korhan

Been trying to do these kinds of things too, it drove me mathematically crazy.
As far as i know there is an abstraction contained in max called 'Pan4' or something like that. maybe you can get some knowledge from it.

wow ! thanks a lot for sharing !
it works well ! i just changed the /100. by /127. and it fits with an lcd.
Need some adjustments to 'smooth' the result so when i am in the center the results are more than 0.25. (in the purpose of broadcasting a sound through 4 loudspeakers). Anyway, thanks again, i'll make some experiments starting with this basis !

Thank you so much, Ned! It works like a charm! I love your Kaoss FX rack, too! (just saw it on YouTube)

Chapelier, thank you for sharing your mod, but I have my own UI.

You should check the Node Max object. Part of the math is already done ! :D

Nodes is a 2D parameter interpolation user interface. Check the Max-MSP examples included directly in the software, one of them is about mixing 4 audio sources with the Nodes object.

PS : Hi Chapelier Fou ! Nice to see you here also !
