Euclidean Rhythm Generator

Post by Adesso » Wed Sep 26, 2012 9:21 am

Proudly announcing my Euclidean Rhythm Generator! Inspired by the paper 'The Euclidean Algorithm Generates Traditional Musical Rhythms' by Godfried Toussaint. Already existing MFL devices I found on the Web did not satisfy my needs (broken basic algorithm, missing some features I needed, incomplete integration in Ableton Live...). So I wrote my own device starting from scratch. Will soon be released under GPL.

In the mean time have a look here: http://vimeo.com/adesso/euclidean

- looking for testers -

I'm interested in testing. I made a Max patch (Max 5 not M4L) years ago doing this but lost it, would love to see the M4L version.

I couldn't get it to work in max 5 for live. I had a go at altering the maxpat header in notepad... But 0 success. Dissappointing but predictable I suppose. Is there a way to create a max 5 compatable version?

Really sorry! Did you get some Error Message? I do not have a max 5 environment at my disposal. Can't do tests.

Someone else had a problem with max 5. He got an error message regarding javascript. So I could solve.

Maybe I should check if some new max 6 object has been introduced. Sorry again.

No need for apologies, just the way it is. Next time I find time to start it up I'll post it on here.

Thanks, I'm already completing a new feature:

Control of 'density' and 'dynamic' by means of a controller - local and MIDI (modulation wheel). It has been rather complex to figure out the algorithms.
- Not a stupid interpolation of preset-parameters, which creates very ugly musical discontinuities.
- But a musically coherent behavior is what I wanted.
Should be released soon.

I'm not sure if the created midi is in sync with Live? Would it be possible to export the patches as midifiles or even drag+drop into a midiclip?

Of course it is! Primarily the device is thought as a real-time tool like an instrument. And as such it is in synch! And the produced events are recordable into a clip.
But recording the resulting patterns you lose all the flexibility! You should write or record the incoming MIDI instead. Doing so at any time it can be edit (like a synth!!!) or you may alter the modulation input which controls dynamic/density at a macro level.
