what's the difference between M4L and MAX MSP?

Post by kevlarwhacker » Sun Jan 20, 2013 10:15 am

I'm taking an intro to MAX class this summer. The teacher is going to use original max msp (not sure how to differentiate). Does anyone think it will be a problem to use M4L in this class?

m4l uses a subset of the whole max environment and refers to the interface between max and ableton live such as accessing clips and tempo and so on

msp is the audio part

presumably in the class the tutor will provide the programming environment - if you are saying is m4l a good primer before the course - probably some of it is useful
but since the course is msp it sounds like it will focus on audio processes and not necessarily the connection between Live, control signals etc.

From my own perspective I was most interested in the control stuff and interface between Live and MAX so for me MSP is not that interesting anyway and M4L is the way forward!
