Send patch

Post by mauronedj » Tue Aug 06, 2013 11:07 pm

H to all,
I've searched for a long time now so i decided to ask that here:
It is possible to create a max for live patch that sends out the sound like the I/O on live?
The purpose is to use it for external sidechain compression without needs of other audio channel routings, or to send the sound out to 2 channel for NY compression (kind of).
Thanks,
Mauro.

Not possible. M4L devices are like plugins that can send audio only through the Live tracks.

Thanks!
So another idea comes into mind:
it's possible to create a dual device patch, one send and one receive, and stream audio from these tho devices?

Max provides send~/receive~ for streaming audio between different patches but unfortunately it's not supported in M4L.
I guess there are technical issues regarding automatic delay compensation in Live.

There is an easy workaround. Hook up a dropfile object to an sfplay object. Link the sfplay object to Live's transport so when you press play in Live the sfplay object will start playing. Drag the clip that would have been the sidechain input into the dropfile box and there you have it. It's just as easy to drag a clip into a dropbox as it would have been the traditional sidechain way. The only limitation is that MIDI clips must be rendered to audio first.

... I must be missing something; this is what the External Audio Effect plugin does already, isn't it?

No, External Audio Effect routes in audio from hardware. We are talking about routing audio into a Max for Live patch from a track that is different from the track that the patch was inserted on (sidechain).
