help from someone with a launchpad S and m4l ?

Post by chapelier fou » Fri Nov 01, 2013 8:46 pm

i've read that on new LPs you can, in the bootloader, specify an id for each LP that you use.
Could someone confirm that it gives each device a single name, like "launchpad1", "launchpad2", etc ?
So in max, you would never mix them up ?
In m4l, get control_surfaces would give you different names, each consistent and attached to a specific physical device ?

i m pretty sure it does, but i'd like to be 100% before trading my 2 LPs for 2 LPSs.

Thanks !!

the extra number on the end of the device id is only added when more than one is plugged in, i think.

my new launchpad mini shows up as "Launchpad Mini", so i suspect when enumerated the device id's will look like "Launchpad S 1", or "Launchpad 1". rather than "Launchpad1" etc.

it is well worth an upgrade for the much much faster LED updating. can upload all 64 grid buttons smoothly, looks instant to the eye, unlike the old launchpad.

also i really prefer the new size of the launchpad mini, more portable and feels nicer to play, to my hands at least. but then i don't have particularly large fingers and am used to a monome.

Thanks myr !
i'd prefer the mini as well in terms of size and price, but one of the other reasons i want to upgrade from the old launchpads is the led brightness. the brighter it is the better, as i play live outdoor from time to time. Do you know if the Launchpad S' brightness is that much better than the mini's ?

launchpad mini is as bright as the launchpad s! at least it is much brighter than the old launchpad, and i think all the innards are the same between mini and s, just a different size.

ah i see what you mean! yeah was worried there'd be a big difference between s and mini, read into it and got the impression there wasn't. now i've seen that video i can see there is a difference, but as said in the video launchpad mini is still bright enough for playing outside in the sun.

i haven't got an old launchpad to hand, but when i got the launchpad mini and put it into high power i was very pleasantly surprised! personally i'd also say the the reduced size, portability, and money saved make the mini worth buying over the s.
